Card Table – Circa 1825-1830 ATT: Anthony Gabrielle Quervelle (1789-1856) HOA: 29 1/2" WOA: 36” DOA: 17 5/8” Description Table top is book matched crotch mahogany veneer over mahogany, with radius corners and half round molded edges (1). There are full mortised hinges on the back and a single leaf edge tenon. The top, with a captured ash disk, rotates on a poplar brace that is screwed to the frame. The convex is skirt white pine with book matched crotch mahogany veneer, mortised and carved front corner blocks, and dovetailed back railed (2). Ash medial support is screwed to the skirt, with rounded corners in a red washed well, formed by a poplar medial brace and bottom. The pedestal is attached by double wedged tenons through the support (3). The pedestal has superbly carved leaves of acanthus and other foliage above a foliated base ring (4). Double through tenons that are also wedged attach the pedestals to the convex base with canted corners (5). The straight sided base is a triple lamination of white pine with mahogany veneer. The table feet are characteristic lion’s paw, decorated with acanthus foliage flanked by applied scrolls, foliage, and gadrooning (6).
